Dear SOAR Families,
As you know, Denver Public Schools (DPS) works very closely with Denver Heath Officials to make decisions for Denver students in regards to health, safety and student Learning.
Due to the rising numbers of COVID cases among adults and adolescents, the Denver Health Dashboard is now at a point where the following has been decided:
- Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade will continue in person learning. Remote learning for students in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade isn’t supportive of the learning needs at their age, e.g. learning how to read, write and build academic language. It is critical that we prioritize their in-person learning experience for as long as it is safe.
- 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will go remote starting Monday, November 2nd and continue learning remotely until possibly December 1st at the earliest.
It is important to note that SOAR has not had a reported student case of COVID. Schools have been identified as being safer than grocery stores, restaurants, gyms, etc. because of our sanitizing practices, social distancing precautions, and school day structure.
In addition, children age 9 and below have the lowest instances of having the infection, and/or transmitting the infection to each other.
We understand that this shift is challenging on families and that the abundance of health information can be confusing. We appreciate the flexibility and perseverance of our community and will do everything possible to support all SOAR families during these transitions.
Thank you.
