Our One on One Instructional Assistants (1:1 IA) collaborate with the Special Education teacher, specialists (BCBAs, Speech Language Pathologists, and Occupational Therapists), for creation and implementation of Individualized Education Programs, and oversight of student programs related to all goals and objectives. The 1:1 IA supports the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, physical and daily living needs of a student who has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Intervenes in potential conflicts utilizing appropriate physical and/or therapeutic approaches for the purpose of diffusing behaviors and minimizing disruptions.
• Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and meeting IEP goals.
• Attends meetings and trainings for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
• Monitors and implements their student’s daily schedule and behavior plan for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
• Assists in conducting testing and assessment, multi-media activities, general office and clerical tasks, record-keeping, technology use, discipline, and other activities.
• Assists student as needed for restroom and handwashing breaks for the purpose of attending to the student’s personal hygiene and care needs.
• Escorts students for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and safe arrival to and/or from a destination.
• Supervises individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. playground, hallways, bus loading areas, cafeteria, car lane, classrooms, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned based on the best interest of students.

Skills and Qualifications

• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, specifically autism
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum High School diploma/GED plus proof of passing the TABE D Adult Education Test for Reading and Math; or transcript(s) verifying at least 48 semester hours of undergraduate coursework from an accredited college or university.
• Experience as an instructional aide supporting a teacher or multiple teachers; other relevant experience working with elementary aged students in a structured setting may be considered.

Salary and benefits

• Salary is based on experience and degree; range is $35,000 to $53,000
